Working with donors to meaningfully give back
Donors make a difference with the dollars they invest in Greater Des Moines through their charitable funds at the Community Foundation. These funds can benefit the community forever and help donors create personal legacies. We provide expert advice, professional fund management, maximum tax savings and strong connections to hundreds of local charities.
Community leadership
For more than 40 years, the Community Foundation has been working closely with donors, local leaders and hundreds of nonprofit organizations. We are a planner, convener and catalyst in issues important to the Greater Des Moines community and leverage our resources with others to support crucial community initiatives and create real change. To ensure sustainability for the future, we are a partner in leading the Capital Crossroads five-year vision plan for our community.
Supporting nonprofit organizations
The Community Foundation provides leadership by financially supporting local nonprofits through grants and building the capacity of nonprofit organizations through training opportunities.
Ways to Get Involved
You can start building the foundation for your charitable giving through a fund at the Community Foundation. Seed Funds allow you to start a fund and gradually build upon it. Your Seed Fund will grow into a charitable fund that will let you support the charities or causes you choose and will forever have an impact on the quality of life in your community.
The Community Foundation’s new Giving Card program supports our community’s nonprofit organizations, encourages giving and enables others to give back. Giving Cards are great gifts for friends, family members and colleagues. You choose the amount you want to place on the card, and the person who receives the card selects the 501(c)(3) charitable organization to support with the card.
The Community Foundation developed the Giving Guide to help you determine what is most important to you and lead you through exercises that define your values, identify your interest areas, create a personal mission statement and help you make strategic decisions about your charitable giving. By aligning charitable giving and volunteer work with your values, life experiences and interests, you can make a meaningful difference.
