Charitable Committee
The goal of the YPC Charitable Committee is to connect young professionals with non-profit organizations throughout the Des Moines metro. Each month, the Charitable Committee meets to determine ways to bring charities and young people together through a variety of donation events, After Hours tours, lunch and learn programs, and volunteer opportunities.
YPC encourages all members to donate at least 10 hours to area organizations, and will recognize any current dues-paying members that reach that goal. To report your volunteer hours to YPC, complete and submit the Volunteer Report Form for each of your volunteer activities. In January, YPC will recognize all members who have completed at least 10 hours of volunteer work, their employer, and the amount of hours reported.
For more information about the committee or volunteer opportunities, please contact the Charitable VP, Lauren Burt.
Spring Cleaning Clothing Drive
The first annual, Spring Cleaning Clothing Drive, was held the week of May 1-9, 2008 at the Greater Des Moines Partnership. YPC partnered with AIB College of Business to provide their students with young, stylish clothing for their first interview and first day on the job through their on-campus, free of charge store, The Clothing Closet.
During this inaugural event, we had over 40 young professionals donate more than 630 items of clothing and accessories. The majority of the donations were women apparel items, totaling more than 400 donations! Wells Fargo, Principal and EMC Insurance were three of the top companies represented by the professionals donating.
The students of AIB are extremely grateful for all the clothes donated and YPC looks forward to a future partnership with AIB and other colleges to better the lives and careers of the young professionals of greater Des Moines.

YPC/United Way Non-Profit Forum
Each year, YPC partners with United Way to provide an event to tie in YPC’ers with charities and non-profits in Iowa. This year, the 3rd annual Non-Profit Forum will be held on June, 19, 2008 from 5:30-7pm at InPlay in downtown Des Moines.
This successful event pairs young professionals with a charity of their choice to volunteer and for possible board placement. More than 30 non-profits will be represented at this event.
Attendees will have the chance to participate in a speed session of
“Meet Your Match: Find Your Heart in the Community” with a variety of community leaders and professional volunteers.
Lunch & Learn: Non-Profits 101
Beginning this summer, the Charitable Committee will be offering lunch and learn sessions for young professionals to become more acquainted with everything non-profit such as volunteering, fundraising and working for a non-profit.
The sessions, held over the lunch hour at the Partnership, will be hosted by a diverse group of community leaders who will offer their insight and advice to any one interested in developing more acute skills in the community service industry.
Please refer to the website calendar for upcoming dates.
