Mentor Program

Program Purpose
The YPC Mentor Program is designed to connect college seniors, recent graduates and interns with YPC members currently employed in their field of interest. Our goal is to make the transition from college easier and less stressful.

Program Description
The program activities include: one-on-one connections, networking socials, career-oriented forum discussions, résumé assistance, intern outings, introducing mentees to Des Moines career research services, work/life experience discussions and other YPC-sanctioned events.

Commitment
The timeframe for this program is up to the mentor and mentee. Once a mentor is assigned, the mentee will schedule the first meeting with their mentor.

Mentee
• Attend the “Meet Your Mentor” event.
• Responding to their mentor’s introductory email.
• Scheduling at least two additional face-to-face meetings with your mentor.
• Attend at least one YPC Professional Development event.

Mentor
• Attend the “Meet Your Mentor” event.
• Send introductory email to mentee.
• Regularly follow up with your mentee’s career search progress.
• Suggest networking groups or events for mentee to attend in their field of interest.

Needed
We are looking for YPC members passionate about their career to become mentors for college seniors, recent graduates and interns. Mentoring gives you the amazing opportunity to assist someone with professional growth by sharing knowledge you learned through years of experience. Mentoring allows you to strengthen your coaching and leadership skills by working with individuals from different backgrounds and with different personality types.
