YPC Impact Downtown Strikes Again…
Last Saturday, the YPC Impact Downtown Committee stepped up to the plate “Extreme Home Makeover” style. Through a sponsorship with Children & Families of Iowa’s Elevate organization, the committee adopted an apartment in need of some TLC. The apartment is home to Quintalla, who recently aged out of the foster system and is raising her ten month old son and 16 year old sister, near Drake University. With the help of Saxton Inc., designer Allyson Donohue and Sales Representative Neely Awtry, a complete floor plan was developed after a professional consultation with the resident.
Committee members Neely Awtry, Shawn Harrington, Pete Jones, Shannon Michelsen, and Nino Toscano pulled the moving truck up to the apartment at 10AM and began switching out furniture, painting, cleaning, and rearranging. With the help of over 20 donors, over 30 items were collected, exceeding the original wish list submitted by the youth. See before and after pictures from the apartment make-over here.
The YPC Impact Challenge group was recognized by Children & Families of Iowa on Thursday, April 24th, as one of the donors to the Apartment Makeover. YPC was one of 15 organizations recognized for their part in providing a makeover for a youth’s apartment. YPC was awarded with the Elevate Key, presented by Sheila Kinman, Development Director of Children & Families of Iowa. Keynote Speaker at the event was Victoria Rowell, best known for her role on “The Young and the Restless.”
“I really enjoyed the night, because we were able to sit down and eat our meal with Quintalla and her boyfriend Anthony,” said YPC VP Pete Jones. “The entire evening was very moving and it was great for YPC to get recognized next to some of the larger companies in the area.”
Special thanks goes to the following sponsors for making this happen: Saxton, Inc., Gateway Lofts, Iowa Carpet One, and Sherwin-Williams.
