Roll out the red carpet for the 2009 Golden Circle Games: Celebrity Edition, hosted by the Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Young Professionals Connection (YPC). Kicking-off Wednesday, June 17th at 3:30 p.m., area businesses will send out their representative teams of eight (made up of at least four women) to engage in some friendly contests with other local groups.
“Besides being an annual tradition here in Des Moines, these games are a great opportunity for people to dress-up, have fun, and participate in some non-conventional networking. We are expecting a big turnout this year with representation by all industries,” said Ashley Okland, the Golden Circle Games Subcommittee leader.
Since its origins nearly 25 years ago, the Golden Circle Games have brought people together for a high-energy, multi-event competition. Originally, the Games took place between four local businesses, but have grown substantially over the years; the 2009 Games are expected to bring at least 500 competitors from 300 area businesses and organizations.
This year’s event will take place on the Midway at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with the games set to begin at 4:30 p.m.
Each year the Golden Circle Games have different themes, and this year showcases the glitter-, fame-, paparazzi-, socialite-, and Hollywood-inspired, “Celebrity Edition”. The focus is on fun, games, teambuilding, networking, and a little healthy competition.
