YPC CHARGES YOUNG PROFESSIONALS TO BECOME LEADERS OF SUSTAINABILITY IN CENTRAL IOWA WITH THE GREEN CHALLENGE

GREATER DES MOINES – The Young Professionals Connection (YPC) Impact Challenge #3 was presented on January 13, 2010 at RDG’s main office in downtown Des Moines. The challenge will promote business leaders and young professionals working together to better our community.

The challenge was presented to log 1,000 trips for the Rest Your Car Program, which includes trips made by carpooling, bus, walking, or biking. The sign up to help YPC achieve this goal is at www.drivetimedesmoines.org. DART has provided assistance in developing the challenge, along with the Greater Des Moines Partnership. The Center on Sustainable Communities was also on hand at the January rollout event.

Watch for a series of Green tips placed on banners in business windows and buses throughout Des Moines, as well as on the YPC website. YPC will soon have entry forms for “Greenest YPC Member” and “Greenest Business for Young Professionals,” which will be awarded on April 22nd.

The YPC Green Challenge will conclude on Earth Day (April 22nd) at the Downtown Community Alliance (DCA) Trash Bash After-Party. The Impact Downtown Committee is partnering with the Parks and Recreation Department to host this party. Please visit the YPC website at www.ypcdsm.com and click on “YPC Green Challenge.” for more information.
